Infolib: a library automation legacy worth preserving

Created to help libraries move toward automation, Infolib brought practical library workflows together in one application. Desiderata Solutions is preserving the recovered legacy software, documenting how it worked, and exploring how its useful ideas can live on for today’s libraries.
Infolib was historically available as a free public download. The restored public release is now available after a short registration step. No payment or donation is required, and Gerry O. Laroza remains clearly credited as Infolib’s creator.

The Infolib Story
A practical system built to help libraries automate.
Infolib grew from Gerry O. Laroza’s commitment to helping libraries automate their services. For libraries that needed a practical local system, his software offered tools for day-to-day library work in one application. Years after the original hosting disappeared, a recovered copy of Infolib 2015 was entrusted by Gerry’s family for preservation and testing.
Desiderata Solutions is not the creator of Infolib and will never present the software as its own. Gerry O. Laroza remains the original author and developer. Desiderata Solutions’ role is stewardship: preserving the recovered materials, documenting the legacy system, testing a clean copy cautiously, and making the software’s history easier to find.

Why Preserve Infolib?
Preserving software—and the memory around it.
Older library systems are part of the history of library automation in the Philippines and of the people who built practical tools for libraries with limited resources.
Preserving Infolib means preserving both software and memory: how librarians worked, what problems the system solved, and how Gerry’s work reached institutions that used it.
Restored Legacy Download
Download Infolib 2015
Infolib was historically made available to the public as a free download. Desiderata Solutions is restoring that access while preserving Gerry O. Laroza’s authorship and documenting the recovered legacy software carefully.
The restored Infolib download remains free. No payment or donation will be requested. Before downloading, users will complete a short registration form so Desiderata Solutions can document which institutions are using the restored software, understand their current library environment, and provide relevant release information.
Registration for the download is separate from the optional Infolib Story form below. Sharing a story or giving permission to contact you about future solutions will never be a condition of download access.
What the restored download includes and documents
- Creator: Gerry O. Laroza. Desiderata Solutions is preserving and restoring access; Desiderata Solutions is not the original developer.
- Status: Historically free legacy software. The restored release remains free, with registration required before download.
- Tested environment: The verified public baseline is documented for Windows 10 Home 22H2 with 64-bit Office LTSC 2024 using the selected compatibility setup path.
- Prerequisites: The included documentation and Setup Infolib companion describe the Microsoft ACE environment and reporting prerequisites used by the verified compatibility path. R4 includes Compatibility Companion v8, which improves first-time folder selection, Microsoft reporting prerequisite recovery, and installer diagnostics without modifying the original Infolib2015.exe.
- Known limitations: The package states the workflows that remain outside the verified public baseline, including barcode output, embedded PDF/full-text display, real gate hardware, and some report export/printing paths.
- Integrity: Any separately approved compatibility-modified executable will be clearly distinguished from Gerry’s original executable.
- Data safety: The public package uses a neutral starter database rather than another institution’s operational records. It is intended to be configured locally by the downloading library.

Will the restored Infolib download remain free?
Yes. Infolib was historically distributed as free legacy software, and Desiderata Solutions is not introducing a payment or donation requirement. A short registration form will be required before download so use of the restored release can be documented responsibly.
Why is registration required before download?
The registration captures basic contact and institutional information, including the institution’s current system, approximate collection size, and library staffing. This helps Desiderata Solutions understand where the restored software is being considered and administer release information. Permission to contact a registrant about future library technology solutions is optional and separate.
Is Infolib compatible with Windows 10 or Windows 11?
The verified public baseline covers Windows 10 Home 22H2 with 64-bit Office LTSC 2024, using the compatibility setup path selected for that environment. Clean acceptance covered setup, login/main menu, Maintenance, Cataloging form loading, Circulation, Article Index, OPAC, Gate startup, Reports, Records Count rendering, and normal reopening. Windows 11 has not been verified, and barcode output, embedded PDF/full-text display, real gate hardware, and every report export/printing path remain outside the verified public baseline.
What prerequisites does the restored Infolib use?
Database access depends on a usable Microsoft ACE/Access Database Engine path. The included Setup Infolib companion checks the available ACE environment and, when needed, can obtain the Microsoft reporting prerequisites used by the verified compatibility path. The package documentation explains the one-time setup process, tested environment, third-party components, and known limitations.
Will the public package contain another library’s records?
No. The restored public package uses a neutral starter database rather than another institution’s operational records. The starter database intentionally begins with zero catalog records and is meant to be configured locally by the downloading library.
Can former users contribute to the project?
Yes. Former users can contribute historical context and stories about how Infolib was used. Sharing a story is separate from download registration, and permission to publish or forward a story to Gerry’s family remains optional.
